Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8/9/2026

This Privacy Policy describes how the AptToTeach platform — including this site, The Way, and every other church site built on AptToTeach — collects, uses, and shares information. AptToTeach is built and operated by BPMR Associates.

Who This Policy Covers

This policy applies to three kinds of people:

  • Organizations — the churches and ministries that license AptToTeach and manage a site like this one.
  • Users — people who create a free account on a church's AptToTeach site to save listening progress across devices.
  • Visitors — anyone who browses a church's AptToTeach site without an account.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When a User creates a free account, we collect an email address, an optional display name, and a password (stored only as a salted one-way hash — we never store or have access to a User's actual password). We also maintain session tokens so a User stays logged in across visits and devices.

Organization & Payment Information

When a church becomes an AptToTeach Organization, we collect standard business contact and billing details in order to set up and invoice the account. Payment processing is handled by our payment processor (Stripe) and billing/invoicing by our billing provider (FreshBooks) — AptToTeach and BPMR Associates do not directly store full payment card or bank account numbers; those are handled by Stripe and FreshBooks under their own security and privacy practices.

Uploaded Content

Organizations upload sermon audio, video, transcripts, and related metadata (titles, descriptions, speakers, scripture references) to their site. This content is stored in our cloud storage (Amazon Web Services S3) and delivered via a content delivery network (Amazon CloudFront) so it loads quickly for Visitors and Users. This content is provided by, and remains the property of, the Organization.

Technical & Usage Information

Like most websites, we automatically log some technical information as pages are viewed: the page requested, the referring page, browser/device information (user agent), and an IP address with the last segment anonymized before it's stored. We use a cookie (listener_key) to identify a browser anonymously so playback progress can resume on that device, and — for logged-in Users — a separate secure, HttpOnly session cookie (user_session) to keep them signed in. If a User listens to or watches a teaching, we record playback progress (position and completion) so it can resume later, tied to the User's account if logged in, or to the anonymous device cookie if not.

Email Communications

We send transactional emails — such as password reset links — via Amazon Simple Email Service (SES). We do not use these addresses for third-party advertising.

How We Use Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the AptToTeach platform.
  • To let Users create accounts, log in, and sync listening/watching progress across devices.
  • To operate and support Organization accounts, including billing.
  • To send account-related emails (password resets, security notices).
  • To understand aggregate site usage and diagnose problems.
  • To prevent abuse and keep the platform secure.

How Information Is Shared

We share information only as needed to operate the platform:

  • Infrastructure providers — Amazon Web Services (hosting, storage, content delivery, email).
  • Legal requirements — if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of AptToTeach, our Organizations, or others.
  • Business transfers — if BPMR Associates is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

We do not sell personal information.

Data Retention

We retain account and usage information for as long as an account is active. After an Organization's account is cancelled, we retain its data — including User accounts and content on that Organization's site — for 90 days, after which it is deleted or anonymized, except where we're required to keep it longer for legal or accounting purposes.

Your Rights and Choices

Users can review and update their account information at any time from My Account, or permanently delete their account from Delete Account. Anyone — User, Visitor, or Organization contact — can request a copy of the information we hold about them, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by contacting us below.

Data Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect information, including encrypted (HTTPS) transmission, salted one-way password hashing, and access controls on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

AptToTeach sites are general-audience church resources and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13; a parent or guardian who believes a child has created an account may contact us to have it removed.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
